'73 Mack goes to Florida

Steve Blackburn,(Nephew of past fire chief Burt Blackburn), has purchased the 1973 Mack. The Mack was loaded on a flatbed truck today to be hauled off to Florida to be placed in a private museum collection of other antique vehicles. The Mack was still in service as a front line piece up until about a year ago. She will be missed. Hopefully it will some day make its way back home.


 
   
   
Busy Night for Station 18

On April 29, 2009 at 21:31 the company was dispatched to MacDade and Edgewood for a motorcycle accident. Tac-18 responded with a crew of 4 under the command of 18-9A(Ben Salmieri). No injuries were reported, hazards were controlled, and we were only in service 8 minutes.

Then, at 22:50hrs, the compay was dispatched to Morton and Swarthmore Ave's for the vehicle accident with entrapment. The Company responded under the comand of 18-9(Joe Carollo). Rescue 43(Holmes) assisted with the lengthy extrication. One patient in the struck vehicle was flown to Hup via Pennstar helicopter in critical condition. Company 49(Milmont) set up the landing zone at Ridley High School. The Company was in service for 1hour and 40 minutes.

While out at  the accident, station 18 was also dispatched to 2nd and Kedron Ave's for a gas odor in the area. Company 13(Rutledge) was dispatched to assist. PECO was notified to make a response and the assignment was returned after a short while.


 
Folsom Visits Ridley Middle School

On Thursday April 23, 2009, Chief Joe Carollo, Cheif Engineer Andy Hilferty and Firefighter Phil Hilferty went to the Ridley Middle School for career day. Cadet Firefighters Tyler O'Donnell and Cody Lundberg were there to assist in the presentation.


 
   
   
Station 18 to the Rescue!

On April 22, 2009, Station 18  was alerted by a concerned citizen about a feline stuck up in a tree. 18-3 responded at reduced speed with a crew of 4, under the command of 18-9(Joe Carollo) to 4th and Sylvania Ave's to rescue the cat out of the tree. The crew threw a  ladder and was able to get him down to safety. Anything for our great residents.

On Monday April 6th, 2009, Bon Air Fire Company came to our station and filled our empty air cascade system, which we use to fill our air packs and spare bottles, so from all the members of the Folsom Fire co, thank Bon Air Fire Company.

On Friday the 4th of April, 2 year old Bella visited the station. She was taken around and shown the trucks and gear by Chief Joe Carollo and Chief Engineer Andy Hilferty. Prior to leaving, she recieved her very own fire helmet and coloring book. Bella was very excited to get her picture taken with the Chief. The officers and members welcome anyone to stop by the station for a visit anytime. Drill nights are Tues. At 7p.

 
Company 18 Dispatched to Assist 43
Shortly before 13:30 hrs today, Company 18 was dispatched to assist company 43 on the reported house fire at 345 Cedar ave. Under the command of 18-9A( Salmieri) the crewof 18-3 was ordered by 43-9A( Hackney) to bring up the TIC. 18-9C( Gunnip) checked the breaker box in the basement and found nothing. The company was in service approximately 25 minutes.

At 19:56 hours the Company was dispatched to 242 Baltimore Ave in Milmont Park for the reported building fire. Upon arrival, 49-9B ordered 18-3's crew to throw a ground ladder  to the roof to check the chimney. The crew of 18-3 also assisted in ventillating the structure. The Company cleared the scene in about 45 minutes. 


 
   
   
Kitchen Fire In The First Due

At 14:42 hours the Company was dispatched to 811 Agnes Ave in Folsom for the kitchen fire. Upon arrival there was a  medium smoke condition showing from front door. Interior crews went in and found the fire on the stove in the kitchen. The Crew from 18 extinguished the fire and Ladder 43(Holmes) was  ordered to provide ventilation. Crews overhauled the area and secured the stove. Units cleared the scene in approximately 20 minutes.

Cadet applicants must be 14-15 years of age and need only fill out an application and get their parents permission along with their working papers to join. Controlled Burn

Station 18 was dispatched at 17:55 hrs. to 2nd Ave and Willbrook Ave. Tac 18 responded under the command of 18-14 (Hilferty). The incident turned out to be a controlled burn. the Company was inservice 20mins. 


 
CO Poisoning Results In A Double Fatality

At just after 11am this morning, the members of Station18 were alerted to a possible Carbon Monoxide incident at 547 Michell Street in the "Brickyard" section of town. PD and Medics arrived and forced entry to perform a quick recon and found two subjects DOA. TAC 18 arrived and the crew donned airpacks and entered with meters to check for levels of CO inside. 18-12(Hall) reported levels exceeding 550ppm on the second floor and the crew proceeded to open up the house for natural ventilation. The cause was determined to be a vehicle left running inside of the basement garage.

Tonight, the crew from Station18 was dispatched to assist Co 43(Holmes), on the buiding fire at the Presidential Square Apts on South Ave. 18-3 arrived to a light to medium smoke condition and investigated to find the fire out in the apartment. Crews ventilated and performed light overhaul and were available within the hour. Shortly after returning to station the Company was hit out again to Morton and Edgewood for the vehicle fire. 18-1 arrived to find a van fully involved. Crews quickly extinguished the fire and were available in short time. 


 
100th Anniversary Parade

Today the Folsom Fire Company celebrated their 100th year Anniversary by hosting the Annual Delaware County Fireman\\\'s Association parade. The festivities kicked off around 1pm with the parade route starting at the Ridley High School and ending at the station. Thanks to all those that attended and helped out to make this the greatest day possible.
